European Solidarity Centre in Gdansk, Poland
The European Solidarity Centre in Gdansk pays tribute to the history of the Solidarity trade union. The striking design of the building is a powerful reference to the cradle of Solidarity – the shipyard in Gdansk.
The centre is used for educational and cultural events and exhibitions. It also includes a museum and a library.
For this unique construction business partner Roltis, in collaboration with Sunshield, has realized three equally unique louver systems; a beautiful trapezoid and in addition two special skylights.
The trapezoid measures 3.5 by 16 meters and has an area of 56 m2. The two skylights are almost 3 meters wide and 21 and 25 meters high respectively. This results in surfaces of 60 and 67 m2.
This louvers of choice here is the 88-E. A louver made of extruded aluminum with a width of 88 mm. Due to its shape, the blades not only overlap, but also interlock. In combination with brushes, an almost 100% blackout is achieved, allowing optimal daylight control.
The aluminum parts, including the louvers and the rack arms, are coated in RAL 7012 – basalt grey. The plastic components are finished in black.
