Rooflights, 155E, Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam, NL
The Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum is world famous. The Boijmans Van Beuningen Depot opens on 6 November, in five weeks. The Depot is also located in the Museum Park in Rotterdam, next to the museum.
Only 8% of the collection can be displayed in the Museum's monumental building. The rest is stored. Fortunately, that will change once the Depot opens its doors.
The design is by the renowned architectural firm MVRDV. The futuristic building is a work of art in itself and has won the 2020 Rooftop Award before completion.
The skylight on the roof is no less than 206 m2. The blinds were placed by Sunshield. The immense surface is divided into five systems. The blade of choice is the 155-E louver.
Because the 155-E slat has exceptional blackout properties. The louvers not only overlap, but also interlock. These properties give the Depot optimal control over incident daylight during the day.
The application of brushes on the sides (highly visible in one of the photos) of the louver systems further enhances the blackout characteristics.
The aluminium components, such as the slats and the carriers, are made in RAL 7047, Telegrey 4. The plastic parts and the brushes are light grey.
The literally shining photos, the first and last photo of the slideshow, are by photographer Ossip van Duivenbode, and made available by Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen.
